Thanks to Julia Manning of Spring Hope for writing the following for the Rocky Mount Telegram in response to their Speak Up request:
“I just finished reading the postcard from U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge, and I see where Julia Manning from Spring Hope has done an expose, if you will, on Etheridge’s record.
“I was wondering if the Rocky Mount Telegram would be so kind to ask her to do an expose on his challenger so we will know whether or not to vote for her?”
I do not know Renee Ellmers personally, and since she has not been on the taxpayers’ payroll as an elected official, she has no voting record for me to examine. But I will share with you what I learned from her website.
Mrs. Ellmers is a nurse, and her husband is a doctor. Her experience in the health care industry tells her “Obama health care reform” is not good for America. She knows we need health care reform but not the bill that has been passed.
Mrs. Ellmers believes the borrowed money spent on bailouts, failed stimulus and bloated government spending that has exploded our national debt has jeopardized our children’s future.
Mrs. Ellmers believes small businesses, who supply the bulk of American jobs, are trying to survive the recession, but the health care reform and the possible cap and trade taxes are making their future success very uncertain, so they are afraid to expand and hire new employees.
Mrs. Ellmers believes tax cuts coupled with government spending cuts, along with the government getting out of the way and letting the free enterprise system work, is what America needs to put Americans back to work. She believes in lower tax rates across the board, and supports tax reform.
Mrs. Ellmers supports off-shore drilling and says, “It could be a boom for North Carolina’s economy.” She opposes the cap and trade bill, which would put a hidden tax on everything we buy.
Mrs. Ellmers believes marriage is between one man and one woman, and she is pro-life.
She believes immigration laws should be enforced. And she is opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants. She supports strengthening our border enforcement and implementing a strong employment verification system so companies can be sure they are hiring legal workers. She supports stiff penalties for those employers who hire illegal immigrants.
Mrs. Ellmers says, “I am a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, having a concealed carry permit myself. The right to bear arms is constitutionally protected, and one of the cornerstones of our freedom, and I will fight for that right for others as well as for myself.”
I plan on voting for Renee Ellmers to replace U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge on Nov. 2. Why? Congressman Etheridge’s voting record tells me he does not represent me and that he has little regard for our Constitution.
If Mrs. Ellmers is elected, I will keep my eye on her voting, and if need be, I will remind her of her claims and the fact that she will be voted for or against in 2012.
Washington has done this great nation a huge injustice: a $13 trillion debt; demoralizing people by giving entitlements to the ignorant, gullible and lazy, at the expense of American taxpayers and failing to examine each piece of legislation by our Constitution which is the foundation of this great nation.
It is almost impossible for an elected official’s actions to be hidden because of all the technology we have access to. We can now watch their every vote, and if they don’t adhere to the Constitution, we must limit them to one term.
