During a recent appearance on the television program, “On the Record,” Bob Etheridge told WRAL host David Crabtree that “Mrs.Ellmers just doesn’t understand" and in his most recent campaign ad he repeated the charge that "Mrs. Ellmers doesn't seem to understand.”

No Congressman Etheridge, I do understand.

Translation from Washington speak: You don’t understand means you common people are just too stupid to get what Washington is doing to help you.

Only we do understand — because we are paying the bill. According to the Wall Street Journal, the new regulations under Obamacare are already increasing health insurance premiums for families and small business by nine percent. That’s taking hundreds of dollars out of our pockets.

We do understand, Congressman Etheridge. Career politicians like you have been running Washington too long. Career politicians in both parties have failed. We do understand that if we want to change Washington, we have to change the people in Washington.

Tomorrow (Sunday, October 24) the WTVD Debate between Rep. Bob Etheridge and Renee Ellmers will air at 12:00 p.m. Click here to watch online now.

Watch and compare what Bob Etheridge says in the debates to get reelected – to how he votes.

For example, when asked about the Bush tax cuts Etheridge said he wished they could have taken care of that before Congress adjourned. But he cast the key vote for adjournment. He voted to adjourn – and it passed by 1 vote.

He bragged about voting to balance the budget under Clinton, but he actually voted against final passage of the bill.

He bragged about voting to support Veterans, but did not mention how he voted against sending our troops reinforcements when they were fighting in Iraq. .

And he just completely dodged answering why he has voted with Obama-Pelosi 97% of the time.

This election it’s the people against Washington.

And one way people are speaking out is with their contributions. For example: In the last three months, I have raised more money than Congressman Etheridge – who’s been in political office for 30 years. That hardly ever happens – a challenger out raising an incumbent. But my campaign raised $264,000 to Etheridge’s $250,000.

Even more startling: I outraised Congressman Etheridge among individuals by 2 to 1 – $260,000 to $109,000. (The rest of the money Congressman Etheridge raised – $141,000 – came from Washington special interests and political action committees).

Of course, since Congressman Etheridge’s has been shaking down Washington insiders for years he’s built up quite a war chest. He’s taken contributions from lobbyists for bailed out automobile companies. Lobbyists for BP. And lobbyists for defense contractors.

The massive government employee unions have been pumping cash into Etheridge for years. So have the Wall Street Banks and Hedge Funds. The big sugar company special interests in Louisiana. The trial lawyers. And the big drug companies. General Electric Corporation got $25 million in stimulus money – and contributed to Etheridge.

It’s the people versus Washington.

And the special interests – who want to dig into our pockets for subsidies – are bankrolling Bob Etheridge.

To stop them I’m counting on patriots like you – Americans who ask for nothing: No subsidies. No bailouts. No insider deals.

This week I have to beef up my TV campaign. To get my message on Fox and CNN and USA and on ABC and CBS. Will you send a donation to help me this week? Victory is within our grasp. But now is the crucial time. The next two weeks will decide the election. Thank you for all you have done.

How much has Congressman Etheridge changed since he went to Washington? A study last year found that repealing the “Death Tax” (also called estate or inheritance taxes) would create 42,000 North Carolina jobs. Without a death tax, small family businesses and farms wouldn’t have to be broken up and sold to pay taxes.

When he went to Washington, Congressman Etheridge was against the death tax. He said, “One of the largest obstacles to staying in business for families is Federal Estate taxes or death taxes. Before a family has even had the opportunity to properly mourn the passing of a loved one they must begin to face the task of settling the estate. Often a family must endure two deaths; the death of a loved one followed by the death of a business… People labor too long and hard throughout their lives to see the fruits of their work disappear into Uncle Sam’s pockets.” (Congressional Record, 6/10/97)

In his 2000 reelection campaign, Congressman Etheridge bragged about voting to repeal the death tax (News and Observer 10/24/00).

But after more than a decade in Washington, Congressman Etheridge now believes the money you worked to save over your lifetime or the business you built should be taxed when you die — last year, Congressman Etheridge voted to impose a 45% death tax.

And next year, thanks to the fact that Congressman Etheridge voted to adjourn Congress without addressing an automatic death tax increase scheduled for January 1, we will face a 55% death tax.

Right now, Bob Etheridge is running a tv ad claiming – falsely — I want to raise taxes. This ad says, “You do everything right. Work hard. Take responsibility. Pass it on to the next generation.” But Bob Etheridge just voted to impose a 45% death tax and failed to stop an automatic 55% death tax scheduled for January 1 — making it impossible for many North Carolinians to “pass it on to the next generation.”

So how could Congressman Etheridge go from being dead set against taxing estates when he was first elected to supporting a 55% death tax? The answer is simple. He’s now part of the Washington establishment. When he went to Washington, Bob Etheridge was one of us. Now he is one of them.

Which means the death tax will keep killing jobs until we vote Congressman Etheridge out of Congress.

Bob Etheridge is holding a BBQ dinner on September 29th, but not in Dunn or Smithfield or Rocky Mount. He’s holding it a block from Capitol Hill. And he’s charging $2,500 for a plate of barbeque.

Now let’s guess no one – not even in Washington – is silly enough to pay $2,500 for a single plate of barbeque. So why are they doing it?

Well, the unions are doing it because Bob Etheridge supports their card check legislation.

The Wall Street lobbyists are doing it because he voted for their Wall Street bailout.

The pro-immigration lobbyists are doing it because Etheridge voted for amnesty.

And the pro-Ground Zero mosque liberals are doing it because he’s voted for foreign aid that President Obama’s used to build mosques in Cairo, Fallujah and Tanzania.

And that’s just what Bob Etheridge has done for them recently – we don’t know what they may ask him to do next, but if you figure there’s something fishy about a Washington lobbyist wearing an Armani suit and Gucci loafers paying $2,500 for a plate of BBQ we see eye to eye and I’d be grateful for your support.

Together we can put an end to politics as usual in Washington. Please consider donating to my campaign so I can fight these out of control liberal special interests, and their ally – the most out of control Congressman in Washington, Bob Etheridge.”

The Honorable Bob Etheridge
1533 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Dear Congressman Etheridge,

Last week, you mailed (and emailed) letters and newsletters from your Congressional office to voters across the district. In every way these mailings resembled typical campaign ads, except they were paid for by taxpayers and not by your campaign.

In the text of one pamphlet you mailed you told voters you are “reducing the deficit and restoring budget discipline” in Washington. How much did this mailing (and your emailings) cost taxpayers? How many people received the mailings and emails? How can you explain writing taxpayers that you are “reducing the deficit” when you are wasting thousands of dollars of their money on political mailings to help you get reelected?

Congressman, you have over a million dollars in your campaign account, much of it donated by unions and Wall Street special interests. Why didn’t you have your campaign pay for your political ads – instead of sticking the taxpayers with the bill?

Sincerely,

Renee Ellmers

President Obama and Bob Etheridge promised us the stimulus plan would kick start the economy, helping businesses that are struggling and individuals who are out of work. But if you want to see one reason we’ve lost 2.3 million jobs instead – look at ‘Washington politics as usual.’ Look at how Obama has spent millions to promote the Democrats’ political agenda.

For example, take the millions Obama spent on road signs telling people his ‘Stimulus Plan’ is working. Is Obama putting people to work or advancing his political agenda? ‘Stimulus Funds’ have been spent to widen a road (named for Obama) in Florida and used them to pay for big screen televisions, iPods and video games for welfare recipients in New York.

It’s a picture of how Washington works. It’s politics first. And cutting taxes and spending (which would create jobs) is not on the agenda.

Back home we know what it will take to stimulate the economy. We need common sense solutions. We need to remove the obstacles – like Obamacare – standing in the way of our economy recovering. And there’s only one way to do it – to end Washington ‘politics as usual.’

Bob Etheridge has chosen Washington politics over what is best for our economy. To stop his – and Obama’s – out-of-control spending we have to bring our out-of-control congressman home. Watch my new web video and please join me.
