We were all outraged this week to learn that the IRS has been deliberately targeting conservative and faith-based groups. The IRS and the White House have abused their power and undermined the fabric of our free society. We must get to the bottom of what’s happening at the IRS and quickly.

And we must repeal Obamacare.

The IRS scandal is one more in a long list of reasons that Obamacare is bad policy for our country and our healthcare. Under Obamacare, the authority of the IRS is drastically increased. In fact, the IRS is the chief enforcer of Obamacare’s individual mandate tax and the law’s insurance subsidies.

Can you imagine giving the IRS more power when they are already abusing the power that they have?

We cannot allow the IRS to have any say over our health and wellbeing. The IRS must be stopped and Obamacare must be repealed.

Today I am joining with my colleagues in the House to vote for a full and complete repeal of this disastrous law. Despite the liberal Democrats’ highest hopes, the American people are seeing what’s in Obamacare and the president’s signature legislation is growing in unpopularity.

Every week we hear of another small business or franchise that is cutting back on hours in order to avoid the Obamacare penalties.

Families that were already struggling in the slow economy are now bearing the weight of unaffordable premiums and wondering how Obamacare was ever supposed to help them.

Obamacare will not help our families. It will not help our doctors and it will not improve access to affordable and quality healthcare. That was true in 2010 and it is true now.

I ran for office in 2010 because, as a nurse, I knew what Obamacare would mean for our country and I will continue to fight against the law any way that I can.

Today I’m voting to repeal Obamacare.

Will you show your support by donating to my campaign today? With your support, I can continue the fight against Obamacare.

U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers was on Fox News on Thursday night trying to build support for legislation that would restore money for cancer patients on Medicare who are receiving chemotherapy.

Appearing on the Greta Van Susteren program, Ellmers, a Republican from Dunn, said some Medicare patients are being hurt by 2 percent cuts for cancer care services and drugs.

What part of “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” does the President not understand? We have always known of the President’s hostility towards guns and gun ownership, but I am beginning to wonder if anyone in his administration has even read the Second Amendment.

We have a 200 year tradition of gun ownership in this country that must be protected and upheld. The Second Amendment is a right that ensures more than our ability to hunt, shoot recreationally, and defend ourselves – the Second Amendment enables us to remain a free people protected from tyranny.

This is a right that sets us apart from nations all over the world and we must not allow the anti-gun lobby and progressive left to restrict our sacred freedom.

The 23 executive orders the President signed today seek to do just that. Executive orders disguised as “mental health reforms” will open the doors to vast government overreach designed to restrict your ability to purchase and own firearms.

As a nurse, I have always supported making mental health reforms a higher priority and believe we are long overdue for a national conversation about how we can better prevent and treat mental illness in this country. But this discussion needs to happen in the halls of Congress where laws are made and not through overreaching executive orders.

The President has missed an opportunity to lead on mental health issues and has chosen instead to use the recent tragedy in Newtown to advance his own anti-gun agenda, proving once again that President Obama and his allies will do anything they can to restrict our Second Amendment rights.

I want you to know that I cherish our Second Amendment rights and our nation’s tradition of gun ownership. I will do everything in my power as a Congresswoman to protect and promote your right to keep and bear arms. I also welcome an honest discussion about ways to make America safer, but taking way the rights of law-abiding citizens is simply not the solution.

Please make a donation to my campaign today to help me continue fighting for our gun rights and against President Obama’s extreme agenda.

I appreciate your standing with me in this fight to protect our freedoms.

We are now 12 days away from the largest tax increase in American history.

For the last few months Republicans have negotiated in good faith with the president in hopes that we could avert the fiscal cliff and the devastating tax increases and defense cuts it brings. Sadly, it’s become clear that the President’s only concern is getting the revenue he desires to increase the size and power of the federal government.

In 12 days, every American family will see an immediate decrease in their paycheck and have less money to pay their bills and feed their families because President Obama is more concerned with raising revenue to finance his big government agenda than he is with protecting American taxpayers.

Republicans in the House are the last line of defense against President Obama’s tax increases and we are doing everything we can to prevent them and protect American taxpayers.

We cannot tell families that are already struggling to make ends meet that they now have to pay more in taxes. That’s why I’m voting for a plan in Congress today that will stop President Obama’s tax increases and protect American taxpayers.

I promised you when I ran for Congress that I would fight for American families and against President Obama’s tax and spend agenda. I’m doing that everyday in Washington.

I want you to know that I am as frustrated by the gridlock in Washington as you are and I’m fighting right now to make sure that gridlock does not result in a smaller paycheck and larger tax burden for your family.

We have great news! Congresswoman Ellmers has been appointed to the House Energy and Commerce Committee for the 113th Congress.

This appointment means Congresswoman Ellmers will be an even bigger voice at the table in Washington on issues that directly impact various sectors of North Carolina’s economy. The Energy and Commerce Committee weighs in on healthcare, communication and technology, commerce and trade, energy exploration and development, and the committee has an oversight subcommittee.

With this committee appointment, Congresswoman Ellmers will be able to lead the conversation on important issues like energy exploration in North Carolina, healthcare reform, technology innovation and development, and international trade.

The News & Observer rightly called this achievement by Congresswoman Ellmers “a big appointment” in their coverage of the announcement:

U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers has been named to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

It’s a big appointment for the second-term Republican congresswoman from Dunn. She was re-elected on Nov. 6.

Committee chairman Fred Upton announced her selection Thursday night. Ellmers issued a statement on Friday:

“I am truly honored by this appointment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Chairman Upton has led this committee with honor and distinction over the past two years and I am humbled by the privilege to serve with him as we work to grow our economy and address the important issues facing our country.

“By serving on this committee, I am determined to represent the various interests throughout the state of North Carolina and be an influential voice on behalf of my constituents. The North Carolina Republican delegation has a proud history of consecutive representation on this committee in recent years from Richard Burr to Sue Myrick and I am proud to continue this legacy.

“I would like to thank Chairman Upton for his confidence in me and I look forward to working with all my fellow committee members during the 113th Congress.”
